Our next premier
It's official. He was involved in the 2000 election campaign . His wife, four sons and brother are all PhDs; his daughter works at 華視. He's been the vice premier before. The Liberty Times article I linked to there mentions some tryst he had with a female reporter, though I'm not sure if they officially made it to the "affair" level.

Liu Chao-shiuan (劉兆玄) is a Taiwanese educator and the President of Soochow University.Liu was born in Liuyang, Hunan in 1943. He received his Bachelor degree from National Taiwan University in 1965 and Ph.D degree from the University of Toronto in 1971.
Liu was the Minister of Transportation from 1993 to 1996. He became the President of the Soochow University in 2004.

It would be interesting to know in what field he has a Ph.D. Isn't Ma's family also from Hunan?
Actually, he has a PhD in Chemistry. And yes, Ma's parents are from Hunan.
Interesting that a Ph.D. in chemistry would end up in such a position. But then I guess, why not?
