Golden quote from Chen-Ma meeting

"What cannot be denied is that between the two sides some differences and challenges still exist, especially on the issues of Taiwan's security and international space," Ma said at the five-minute meeting with the Chinese leader.
Translation: "What cannot be denied is that China is threatening Taiwan with death, destruction and international isolation and demanding we accept that Taiwan and China are part of the same country, which is clearly not the case, but I'm such a weenie that I'll choose to weasel away from that point," Ma said at the five-minute meeting designed to avoid substance or controversy.

Interesting news, a nonpartisan coalition of students and professors has been holding a sit-in in front of Executive Yuan. They're protesting abuse of the Parade and Assembly Law (集會遊行法), as well as violations of citizen's free speech rights by police over the past couple of days.

Manifesto (in Chinese)

Their demands include:
1) Formal apology from President Ma.
2) Formal apology from Premier Liu.
3) Resignation of the director of the National Security Bureau.
4) Resignation of the director of the National Police Agency.
5) Revision of the Parade and Assembly Law.

They seem to be rather creative and disciplined, as far as protests go, handing out bottled water to the cops, and maintaining a firm but peaceful stance. When the police held up the Riot Act placard declaring the whole thing to be an illegal assembly, the protestors had a rather creative response.
