The Taiwanese had a CLEAR choice in 2004 between long-term democratic goals or short-term local greedy goals. The Taiwanese chose the latter.

The system is corrupt at the local level -- so what can you expect? But make no mistake about it -- the Taiwanes had a clear and unmistakable choice. As they did in 2008.
.
.
.
.
.
.skiingkowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05381159852660053893noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3444895069543408811.post-68589334180583210322008-12-23T00:52:00.000+08:002008-12-23T00:52:00.000+08:00The Taiwanese blew it in 2005.I think you meant 20...The Taiwanese blew it in 2005.

I think you meant 2004.

Maybe you're right - time will only tell. But I would say the Greens blew it to an even greater extent by failing to get a majority.

I can't help but feel they could have run a much better campaign that would have made a difference. But the DPP and TSU spent too much time arguing amongst themselves and not fighting their opponents. Their own fault in many ways.Rajhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10034317459759343093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3444895069543408811.post-29350136268196109522008-12-23T00:44:00.000+08:002008-12-23T00:44:00.000+08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Rajhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10034317459759343093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3444895069543408811.post-55899048563179322602008-12-23T00:14:00.000+08:002008-12-23T00:14:00.000+08:00Yea. That's why I will always say that the Taiwanese brought this on themselves.

In 2005, during the legislative election, Taiwan had a prime opportunity to turn things around and to create substantive democratic change. It was a watershed moment that I will always remember.

The Taiwanese blew it in 2005.
.
.
.skiingkowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05381159852660053893noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3444895069543408811.post-13736212343586463282008-12-22T23:40:00.000+08:002008-12-22T23:40:00.000+08:00I know, STOP, all the signs are there.
